Julian Dugger accounted for four touchdowns against Woodland Hills High, and the Indians needed each one to clinch the WPIAL Class-5A Northeast crown.
Dugger — a 6-foot-4, 205-pound three-star quarterback commit — threw for 92 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 140 yards and two more scores and even lined up out wide as a receiver as Penn Hills knocked off Woody Hills 26-21 Friday night.
It was the continuation of a very strong senior season for Dugger, who continues to flash as an athletic quarterback.
Dugger, who has been committed to Pitt since the summer, has been back to check out games multiple times this season, and he’s continuing to feel more and more at home with the Panthers.
“It’s home,” Dugger told PSN after a game in September. “All of the coaches love me; they text me every day. It just feels like a family relationship, everything is here [for me.] The relationship is good, it is great.”
Dugger has completed 82-of-164 pass attempts (50%) for 1,320 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions, and he’s added 500 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground this season — all up from a good junior season.
Dugger is a tall, athletic quarterback at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, a multi-sport athlete who also stars on the basketball court and competes in track & field, and he’s taken strides as a quarterback — not just an athlete — over the last few months.
He started working with former WPIAL star and NFL quarterback Mike McMahon earlier this year, and it’s shown with his on-field results. Dugger was impressive at a Pitt camp in June, was one of the top performers at the 2Tenths Top 150 camp in July and eventually pledged himself to Pitt at the very end of July.
“I think I impressed people with my footwork and the fact that we were winning and didn’t get stopped the entire camp,” Dugger told PSN in June. “During the camp, I had a very high completion percentage. I was doing a good job of throwing the ball on time and throwing to where my receivers were supposed to be and not waiting for them to get to a spot. I was throwing with anticipation.
“I went to this camp with the goal of showcasing to all the coaches there my talent and showing everyone how I really can throw the ball. I also went there with the goal of winning, which I knew would bring me attention.”
Dugger has done what he’s set out to accomplish during his senior season since the excellent camp circuit over the summer, and now he’ll look to lead the Indians to a WPIAL title.
Oh boy, will those coaches be at Pitt next year?
They handed out H2P Kenny for Heisman yellow towells in December 2021 at Charlotte for ACC Championship game.
They’ll be asking paper or plastic with pre-cut eyeholes on Saturday against FSU at Acrisure.
Any update on how great Kedon Slovis’ season is going at BYU? I believe Provo Sports Now is ready to bench him.
pretty sure he’s having more fun and better stats than if he wasn’t run out of pitt
If the coaching staff were smart, they’d keep this kid as far away from Acrisure Stadium as possible this Sat.
