WPIAL’s Class of 2017 has talented players like Lamont Wade, David Adams, Paris Ford , Donovan Jeter but the most exciting player might be Beaver’s Darius Wise.
Wise (5-10, 160) became the first player in Beaver County history to pass and run for over 1,000 yards in a season (4th in WPIAL history). Check out these stats for Wise this season:
Wise rushing: 124 carries, 1,392 yards (11.2 yds/carry), Wise passing: 72 of 137 for 1,030 yards, Wise accounted for 24 total TD’s
To this point, Wise has received one scholarship offer and it’s an unusual one from a player from Western Pa: BYU.
Wise told me, “I wasn’t really surprised about the BYU offer but I was happy about it. I know a lot about BYU. I have a lot of connections out there.”
The connection that Wise is referring to is that he’s a member of the The Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also, members of Wise’s family went to BYU.
Wise went on to tell me, “my recruiting is going pretty good. I’m getting heavy attention from Pitt, Ohio State, West Virginia and Penn State. Also schools like Wisconsin, Virginia, Michigan State, Duke and Virginia Tech are showing some interest.”
Wise says that offer the next few months he’d like to go visit Ohio State, Pitt, West Virginia and Penn State.
So what about the local school, the Pitt Panthers?
“I like Pitt a lot. They are getting some great athletes that I know on a personal level such as Jordan Whitehead, Paris Ford, Tre Tipton and Kaezon Pugh. I talk to Pitt…actually a lot (Coach Rob Harley).”
Wise is getting recruited by schools as a CB or a slot receiver. When his season ends, he plans on hitting the weight room hard, work on his conditioning and try to gain some weight.
Tonight, Beaver takes on South Fayette in the Class AA quarterfinals.
Wise is another WPIAL Class of 2017 recruit that you need to keep your eye on.
