Winfree To Visit Pitt

Most Pitt fans expect wide receiver Tyler Boyd to declare for the NFL draft after this season. The question then becomes, how will they replace him in the lineup?

The answer would be Juwann Winfree.

Winfree (6-2, 210) is currently playing for Coffeyville C.C. (Kansas) but will be a D-1 receiver next season.  Will it be for Pitt?

Tonight I spoke with the talented wide out and asked him where Pitt stands with him.

“I have a pretty good relationship with Pitt. Especially because they were high on my list in high school and once I left Maryland they were one of the first schools I contacted”, said Winfree. “Coach Powell coached at Maryland last year as well so I have a cool relationship with him. I speak to Coach Sherman on a weekly basis. We talk about our season and his plans for me.”

Winfree finished up this season with Coffeyville with 55 receptions for 837 yards and 7 TD’s.  Winfree is a big receiver (6-2) and asked him to describe his game.

“Two wide receivers I’d say I pattern myself after are Dez Bryant and Keenan Allen. I watch a lot of film on them because of their craft and play making abilities”, said Winfree. “I would describe my game as one of a kind. At 6-2, 210, I’m a big receiver that can have multiple roles. I have good hands,  run good routes and can move with the ball in my hands. I’m just a play maker.”

Right now, Winfree tells me that he has offers from Pitt, Colorado, East Carolina and others. He’s getting heavy interest from Texas Tech and Tennessee.

“As of now I don’t have a current leader but out of those offers, the schools I’m most focusing on are Pitt, Colorado and East Carolina.”

Winfree did say that he plans on making his official visit to Pitt on December 11th.

If Winfree picks Pitt, he’d be following a legend in Tyler Boyd. I asked Winfree his thoughts on Boyd and the possibility of following him.

“I feel Boyd is pretty underrated. Some people feel he’s a possession receiver but as I watch him, I see more of a play maker who can move with the ball in his hands as well. If I was to go there and replace him, I would do a great job and strive to be even better. Just saying that because of my competitive ways.”

There’s no doubt Winfree is a very confident player and someone that really could make a name for himself at Pitt. Time will tell if Pitt will be it!
