Fresh off an official visit to Pitt, and a week after his official visit to Virginia, Cameron Monteiro has named a list of finalists.
Monteiro — a 6-foot-3, 170-pound three-star wide receiver from Brockton High in Brockton, Massachusetts — has named a final three that features, Pitt, Virginia and Kentucky.
He will be committing at his high school on June 14 at 5 p.m.
Monteiro has picked up offers from Akron, Boston College, Buffalo, Connecticut, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Old Dominion, Pitt, Temple, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, but obviously, Pitt, Virginia and Kentucky separated from the pack.
Pitt was the second school to extend Monteiro an official offer, with Tim Salem offering him back on April 27, 2022. He made it out to Pittsburgh for the first time over the weekend, spending a few days for his official visit.
The versatile athlete, who plays quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive back at Brockton, is being locked at as a wide receiver at Pitt.
He was a true triple threat as a junior at Brockton, completing 20-of-32 pass attempts (63%) for 337 yards and two touchdowns and racking up 103 carries for 1,064 yards (10.3 yards per carry) and 15 touchdowns. He also added seven receptions for 149 yards (21.3 yards per catch) and three touchdowns.
He was more of a wide receiver as a sophomore, hauling in 45 receptions for 731 yards (16.2 yards per) and eight touchdowns — while adding 33 carries for 258 yards (7.8 yards per) and three touchdowns and racking up 30 tackles and an interception.
247Sports rates Monteiro as the 778th-ranked recruit in the class (98th-ranked wide receiver and third-ranked recruit from Massachusetts). On3 rates Monteiro as the 747th-ranked recruit in the class (108th-ranked wide receiver and third-ranked recruit from Massachusetts).
Rivals hasn’t yet rated Monteiro, but that will certainly change.
He made official visits to Pitt and Virginia, so while he named Kentucky to his list of finalists, it appears that Pitt and UVa will be the two teams vying for his signature.
Pitt currently holds a commitment from four-star wide receiver DayDay Farmer in the class of 2024, who just made an official visit to West Virginia and will visit UCF and Pitt later this month, and Monterio would be a nice, versatile addition to the class.
