3-Star 2024 Commit Flips From Pitt to Nebraska

Former Pitt commit Eric Ingwerson.

It’s time for the Pitt coaching staff to begin its pursuit of a tight end in the class of 2024. Pitt’s lone tight end in the class of 2024 has flipped his commitment from Pitt to Nebraska.

Eric Ingwerson — a 6-foot-7, 235-pound three-star tight end from Papillion-La Vista High in Papillion, Nebraska — had been committed to Pitt since March, but Nebraska has come after him hard since offering itself in April.

And it was impossible to keep Ingwerson from his hometown program.

“I have a really big family,” Ingwerson told Husker247’s Mike Schaefer today. “I’m really family oriented. I have 20 little cousins, six uncles, three aunts and a big family here. I’m just really close to them. Dinner every Sunday. With me being 14 hours away and them not being able to watch me, it’d really hurt me. It’d make me depressed almost, so I wouldn’t be able to do that. I also love Matt Rhule and the coaching staff at Nebraska. I feel like I fit in really well when they’re running 12 or 13 (personnel), so I had to make the flip when they contacted me.”

Ingwerson committed to Pitt after an unofficial visit in March, picking up his first Power Five offer from the Panthers and committing on the weekend of his visit.

“I always just thought the first to believe in me is where I’ll go,” Ingwerson told PSN when he committed. “And I was just waiting for that first Power Five offer. So, the first Power Five offer I was gonna commit because the first to believe in me, that’s where I was gonna go.”

A little less than a month after Ingwerson committed to Pitt, he picked up an offer from Matt Rhule and his hometown Huskers. It appeared that Pitt was able to fend off the Huskers’ advances throughout the summer, especially after an official visit that left Pat Narduzzi subtweeting Nebraska and Ingwerson reaffirming his commitment.

“I had a great time on my official visit,” Ingwerson told PSN after his OV. “My favorite part was meeting the team and getting to know the coaches even better. I also enjoyed touring even more parts of this beautiful city.

“I love Pitt even more than I did before. I’m 100% committed. I was talking with the players, and it felt like I was talking with family.”

But as is the case in high school recruiting, it’s not over until a player officially signs his letter of intent on Signing Day, and with Nebraska continuing to push hard for the local commit, the hometown Huskers won out.

Pitt does not have a tight end commit in the class of 2024 now, and Tim Salem and the coaching staff will certainly have work to do in securing a tight end commitment before Signing Day in December.

And here we go… sad to say I’m not opposed to us bottoming out and forcing Narduzzi to change his OC.

Gee, why wouldn’t a TE want to play for Pitt?

Don’t worry Duzz will just watch more tape and everything will be ok. This guy turned into the football equivalent of Stallings.

Pitt was heading in the right direction. Then Narduzzi crashed the program by hiring Cignetti and Underwood to take over the offense.
Instead of correcting his mistake, Narduzzi is in denial.

I agree 100%. I hope Duzz is not in denial but just doesn’t want to tank the season by talking trash about his OC. Hopefully he is aware of his mistake and just knows that firing an OC in the middle of a season does not bring good results. Who knows where Duzz’s head is right now. I don’t like his obsession with an over-conservative 1960’s offense. With our good defenses, if we had a decent offense we would be dangerous. Sadly this may be what Narduzi is defined by.

At this point it shouldn’t be Narduzzi’s decision if Cignetti stays or not.

I would be more bummed if this guy committed to Iowa considering their past TEs. This isn’t a loss but perception is bad in the midst of this terrible season.

Why isn’t it a loss? You have no 2024 tight ends now, another great job by Salem. He’s probably too busy making key chains

No surprise here! A TE from Nebraska flipping to Nebraska! Nothing alarming about this flip, not significant AT ALL!

The big surprise will be when 4- 5 star flips from a power 5 team to Pitt. Kidding, never gonna happen.

The kid commits then see s how Pitt uses the te and first chance he gets, he is outtttta here. Heck, who can blame him, I doubt he will be the last. I think the Duzz and his staff could screw up a one car parade,
