Mars forward Michael Carmody has been recognized by MaxPreps.com as the top rebounder in the nation.
Carmody, a senior that has committed to play football at Notre Dame, averaged 19.5 rebounds per game with the Planets, holding down the top spot in the country amongst players whose stats were reported by Max Preps.
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound forward also averaged 19 points per game to lead Mars, which saw its season end with a first-round loss in the PIAA playoffs to Elizabethtown on March 6.
Carmody was suspended for that game for an intentional foul in the 2020 WPIAL Class-5A Championship at Petersen Events Center on Feb. 28, when Mars lost to Laurel Highlands.
Carmody will continue his athletic career at Notre Dame, where he has signed a letter of intent to play football in the Class of 2020. Carmody played tight end, defensive end and tackle in his time at Mars and is expected to join the Irish offensive line this fall.
A consensus four-star prospect and the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania according to 247Sports Composite Rankings, Carmody chose the Irish over offers from Boston College, Duke, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pitt, Stanford, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.
His older brother, Robby Carmody, just finished his second season with the Notre Dame basketball team. The elder Carmody has suffered a pair of injuries to his shoulder and knee that have limited him through two seasons.
The award is stained. He repeatedly took cheap shots at kids all year long. My son played against them several times. Great rebounder yes. Terrible sportsman at best.
top rebounder and thug.
Forgot poor sport, crybaby. So sick of the Carmody brats and their daddy. Another great student athlete for the Irish,
Also #1 punk
After seeing meltdown I’m guessing he won’t cut it at ND when things get tough.
