It was a good start of the day for Pat Narduzzi on Saturday as he received an early morning commitment from a highly rated player.
Class of 2021 four-star athlete Rodney Hammond made an a commitment to Pitt following his game on Friday evening.
The commitment is big for Pitt for a couple of reasons. First, Hammond is a four-star recruit. Second, this is the first major get for assistant coach Chris Beatty.
Hammond (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) is a running back at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia. Aside from Pitt, Hammond held offers from Penn State, Michigan, Maryland, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina and TCU.
Part of the reason Beatty was a good hire for Pitt last season was his recruiting ties in Virginia. That state is loaded with talent in 2021 and Hammonds is now Pitt’s first get.
Pitt’s Class of 2021 has gotten off to a fast start with two commitments already: Hammond and West Mifflin three-star linebacker Nahki Johnson.
