Westinghouse defensive lineman Dayon Hayes announced his commitment to Pitt on Saturday night, capping off an enormous day of recruiting for Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi.
Hayes, a consensus three-star prospect, is Pittsburgh Sports Now’s top local prospect in the Class of 2020. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end committed to Pitt while on his official visit this weekend, along with five other players.
The City League star chose Pitt over Power Five offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas A&M and West Virginia.
Hayes is rated as the No. 3 player in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 51 defensive tackle in the country, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings. He is Pitt’s highest-rated local recruit since offensive lineman Blake Zubovic in 2018 and the highest-rated recruit to come out of the City League since Brashear’s Therran Coleman in 2016.
He’s the fourth defensive lineman to commit to Pitt in the Class of 2020, joining ends Emmanuel Belgrave and Samuel Williams and tackle Timothy Brown.
